I can’t really explain it. I was sitting on the floor at my parents’ house on long island, the house I was raised in, and I was watching a horror movie. I was depressed. I felt defeated. I felt like nothing would ever get better by its own volition. During that period of time I turned to external sources of validation and joy, often. The verses and chorus of “Dinstromentality” are just feelings that I got stuck on and thought would never go away. The bridge was written months later, when I started realizing that everything would be fine as long as I just kept going and released the need to be in control. Sometimes it feels like we have control but we really don’t. Whatever will be, will be and all that needs to happen is for us to be ok with that. It can certainly weigh heavy on the soul, however… -JSanti
